Adventures of a KZ305
I bought a 1982 Kawasaki KZ305 CSR from Facebook marketplace. No, I didn't sell my Harley; I just wanted to have something small to goof around on. I shopped around for awhile trying to find something with a clean title and this was in great shape for a 43 year old cycle with less than 6000 miles on it.
I spent a few hours the other day just tooling around on this little thing, seeing how tight I could get my circles and figure eights in the parking lot and I couldn't stop smiling the whole time. However, the lack of power got me in the gut and I had to ride it home to trade it out for my Road Glide.
I've got to say, if I thought I loved my Harley before, that emotion was increased tenfold after coming off that KZ. The comparison of power, weight and overall feel just hammered it home. Yes, I know, these two bikes are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum and the comparison is not fair in any way shape or form, but really that's the point. This thing was a pellet gun next to an AR; a $60 no name acoustic next to a Les Paul; this was a Tonka truck next to Jack Burton's Pork Chop Express. Well, maybe that's all a bit much.
With a KBB resale of no more than $1700, you can bet this beauty won't stay stock for long. I've got plans; devious, mischievous plans to make this completely unrecognizable. I don't know if I'll trade out the engine for something with more power or keep it an around town cruiser, but it does seem to be a bit sensitive and finicky.
The second outing on the Kawasaki, i ran it out of gas (no gauge + stupid man). I added a gallon of old gas, just hoping to get to a filling station, but apparently the gas was older than I thought (like I said, stupid man) and it was not having it. So, I siphoned out the old gas and brought back a fresh can of brand spanking new fuel, but by this point I had already worn down the battery. I tried to charge it, but still no dice. I spent the entirety of that weekend trying to find a replacement, but as luck would have, this battery was a rarity the likes of which Indiana Jones would like to see in a museum. So, it's on order and I'll be picking it up this weekend.
Stay tuned to see what happens next!
